You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.
Psalm 86:5

What This Verse Means

David makes three declarations about God’s character: He forgives, He is good, and His love overflows. The word “abounding” means there’s more than enough — God’s love isn’t rationed or conditional. And this abundance is available to “all who call” — no one is excluded by default.

Why It Matters Today

Grace feels too good to be true, which is why we often add our own conditions to it. This verse strips those conditions away. God’s forgiveness is His nature, not His reluctant concession. You don’t have to earn what He freely gives.

How to Apply It in Your Life

If you’ve been hesitating to approach God because of something you’ve done, let this verse be your permission slip. Call on Him today. He’s already inclined toward forgiveness and overflowing with love for you.
